1. Platis Gialos — Google: 4,6 ★ (1.949 beoordelingen)

Platia Gialos sits right next to Makris Gialos and is known for its soft golden sand, clear turquoise water and a wide, easy-to-navigate bay that’s perfect for families. The beach has a beach volleyball net, a spacious area with sunbeds and a calm swimming zone that deepens gradually.

The atmosphere is relaxed, with a mix of more local visitors, families, couples and sporty beachgoers. Thanks to its location beside Makris Gialos, you can easily walk from one beach to the other. Platis Gialos is very accessible via a short turnoff from the main road through Lassi.

During high season, Platia Gialos is one of the busier beaches in the Argostoli area, especially in late morning and early afternoon. Outside July and August, it’s a quiet, comfortable spot with a pleasant light breeze. There are showers at the beach, and during high season, a beach bar is open for snacks or a cold drink.

2. Makris Gialos — Google: 4,5 ★ (5.366 beoordelingen)

Makris Gialos is one of the most popular sandy beaches near Argostoli. It stretches along a long, wide bay with clear water and is reached via the same road that runs through Lassi. The beach has several beach bars and offers a range of watersports, including waterskiing and paddleboarding.

The beach bars create a lively atmosphere with upbeat music, making it an enjoyable spot for visitors of all ages. The water deepens gradually, which makes the beach suitable for families and beginner swimmers.

Makris Gialos is perfect for anyone who enjoys comfort, facilities and activity, but less ideal for visitors seeking peace and quiet. It is easily accessible from the coastal road, although it can get very busy in July and August. This makes Makris Gialos the most tourist‑oriented of the three beaches.

3. Kalamia — Google: 4,4 ★ (1.796 beoordelingen)

Kalamia is located about 6 km from Argostoli, along the coastal road towards Lassi. It's a small, intimate bay surrounded by white limestone rocks, with natural caves and crystal-clear, shallow water. The atmosphere here is noticeably calmer than at the large sandy beaches of Lassi.

There's a simple beach bar run by barman George, who plays laid-back blues music. The beach has a mix of sand and small pebbles, so water shoes can be handy for some visitors. Thanks to the rock formations, the water is often especially clear, making it great for snorkelling along the sides of the bay.

Kalamia is known as one of the quieter beaches close to Argostoli, especially outside peak season. In July–August, however, it can still get crowded, particularly in the late morning. Note: there are no toilets, and access is via a short, fairly steep path from the road.

Whether you’re after an active, sun‑soaked beach day at Platis Gialos, a relaxed family outing at Makris Gialos, or a calm, easygoing escape at Kalamia, you’ll instantly feel why these Blue Flag beaches show exactly why Kefalonia is so loved.
